Deluxe Examen is a variation of the Daily Examen, a prayer originated by St. Ignatius of Loyola to encourage mindfulness of God's presence in our day-to-day activities and encourage reflection of his blessings.

I've used a form of it for the last couple of years and appreciate the simplicities of re-connecting with the events of the day an encourage reflective thinking. There are many benefits to reflective thinking as described by John Maxwell, of which I agree.

Not only have I enjoyed doing this in my own life but providing a space to do it with my children before bed. It has been a wonderful way of connecting with them about their day and also providing a space for calming reflection.

Deluxe Examen

  1. Relax and take a few deep breaths
  2. Revel in the knowledge that God is here and the Holy Spirit is present in your life.
  3. Review your day with gratitude, thanking Him for the blessings you received.
  4. Recall the emotions you had today.
  5. Repent of any mistakes or failures that you made.
  6. Rename: Ask God to rename you from any false identities you may believe with His truth about who you are. Then, listen to His voice.[1]
  7. Resolve to do one thing better tomorrow. Present it to God in prayer and ask for his guidance.
  8. Relate with God. Lay, pray, and commune with Him about whatever is on your heart.
